This eight-week workshop is designed for writers of fiction or creative nonfiction who are actively producing new material and wish to receive thoughtful feedback and engage in hearty discussion of narrative craft with an instructor and fellow writers. In addition to reading and discussing student work each week, we'll read published short stories/essays and essays on narrative craft to broaden our understanding of and appreciation for the techniques available to any writer working in the prose form. You'll hone the critical skill of reading as a writer and, in giving close attention to others' work in progress, become a better editor of your own work. You'll have at least two opportunities to submit full drafts (up to 25 pp.) for workshop, and we'll also consider exercises that can "spot-tone" particular pieces of a story or open it up in new, and hopefully fruitful, directions.
