The surveys from our three-hour Story Basics class begged for a longer version; The Porch aims to please. In this workshop, open to writers of all levels, participants can expect to exercise their fiction-writing muscles in order to craft a complete short story from start to finish over the course of the four weeks. Through a combination of in-class exercises and weekly assignments, participants will explore the basic elements of fiction—character, plot, beginnings and endings, point of view, dialogue, setting, and revision—applying each element in the process of sculpting and structuring a story. In the end, students can expect feedback on their story drafts from both fellow participants and from the instructor.
