Writing Through the Lens of David Mitchell

Writing Through the Lens of David Mitchell

from 53.00

In this class, we will be writing through the lens of the works of British novelist David Mitchell (Cloud Atlas, The Bone Clocks, Black Swan Green etc.). Mitchell's novels belie commonalities, except that they all feature an energetic sense of voice and the playful tone of a craftsman who genuinely enjoys the act of creativity. Together, we will discuss how Mitchell's work can inform our own work and creative process, do writing exercises that will explore the kind of challenging first-person personae that Mitchell delights in, create connections between our pieces that will lead towards our own "multiverse," and come away with a clear plan for how to infuse our work with the humanistic spirit that is at the heart of Mitchell's work. Some familiarity with David Mitchell's books is expected; writers in all genres are welcome.
