Using findings from the worlds of linguistics, neuroscience, and psychology, we’ll explore the profound emotional and physical effects of words that we read and write. We’ll read examples from contemporary literature and use writing prompts to explore the effects of words our own interior landscape of body, mind, and spirit.

Julie Sumner is a writer who has worked as a critical care nurse, transplant coordinator, and massage therapist. She recently completed her MFA in poetry at Seattle Pacific University.
