If you have an interest in writing memoir but aren’t quite sure where to begin, this course is for you. Prompts and in-class exercises will help you discover the material you most want to explore. We’ll discuss what distinguishes memoir from other kinds of personal writing, and we’ll read excerpts from classic and contemporary examples of the genre.

About the Instructor:  

Maria Browning is a freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Nashville SceneLiterary Hub, BMI MusicWorld, Still: The Journal, and Guernica. Since 2009, she has been a contributing writer at Chapter 16, a website devoted to covering the literary culture of Tennessee. She attended the Sewanee Writers' Conference and the Moss Fiction Workshop with Richard Bausch. She lives in White Bluff, Tennessee.
