Brain science meets artistic inspiration and creative production In this two-hour class. We'll examine some of the fascinating science behind why metaphors are so irresistible to both the writer and the reader, and then study some great examples of them in poetry and prose. We'll end the class with generative exercises designed to challenge our own ability to create vibrant new metaphors for our own work.

Julie Sumner is a writer who has worked as a critical care nurse, transplant coordinator, and massage therapist. She recently completed her MFA in poetry at Seattle Pacific University. Her work has appeared in Fathom, The Englewood Review of Books, The Cresset, Juxtaprose, San Pedro River Review, Catalpa Magazine, and The Behemoth.
