Now more than ever, genre fiction and genre authors are getting their due respect. In this class, we’ll explore horror writing and its various sub-genres: splatter, cosmic, creature, etc. You’ll be assigned readings from authors like Laird Barron, Maria Dong, and Pete Watts to name a few, and you will be encouraged to write exercises implementing tools and techniques identified in those stories. At the end of our four weeks together, you’ll take one of your exercises and write a proper short story from it.
This class is heavy on workshop and high output, but I promise it’s fun. Just think, every week, you get to try and scare your classmates! Woohoo!
