Writing is revising, and this course will lead writers through four main strategies of revision: radical reshaping, organization, storyboarding, and line-editing. We’ll look at the before-and-afters of published writing, and discuss examples of when and how to reimagine the form and content of an early draft. Through in-class speed-workshops and storyboarding activities, we’ll learn to quickly tear apart what we have and build it back better. Finally, this class offers a lightning-round run-through of different tactics for line-edits and common problems to look out for. With this revision checklist and a clear strategy for organizing drafts and tasks for revision, writers will walk away with a clear plan for their next draft.

Eliana Ramage is a Cherokee Nation citizen born and raised in Nashville, where she works with youth in college access at a non-profit. She received her MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop in 2018, and holds an MA in creative writing from Bar-Ilan University and a BA in English literature from Dartmouth College. Her stories and essays have appeared in Beloit Fiction Journal, The Baltimore Review, CRAFT, and the anthologies All the Women in My Family Sing and Re(Sisters). She is at work on her first novel.
