Harriet the Spy. Charlotte's Web. James and the Giant Peach. Few things are more joyful than the literature we read as children! In this three-week class, you'll get a crash course on all things "kidlit"— picture books, chapter books, middle grade reads, and how to publish them. We'll go over current trends, difference in age groups and genres, and how to tap into that well of nostalgia to create a new story fit for today's young reader canon.

Lisa Bubert is a writer based in Nashville, Tennessee and a staff member at The Porch. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in The Rumpus, Puerto del Sol, Washington Square Review, Carolina Quarterly, Natural Bridge and more. She has been nominated for a Pushcart and for Best Small Fictions 2020. She is also a children's librarian with over a decade of experience bringing picturebooks to life through story time.

What Our Students Say

Lisa Bubert's "The Business of Writing" was perhaps one of the most informative writing classes I've had. Beyond the business aspect, her knowledge of literature and writing technique is impressive.

I really appreciate Lisa's willingness to share of knowledge & experience. I left her workshop with a wealth of information & resources.

Five Stars! She is an incredible teacher.
