Let’s be honest. We writers dream that the books that live inside us will find their way into bookstores, libraries, and homes, will come to life in the hands of avid readers under shady hammocks or in favorite chairs. These books will have splendid covers and rave reviews that honor the love we put into the process. But for many aspiring writers, the journey between finishing a manuscript and launching a book is veiled in mystery. The cogs and wheels of publishing are strangely opaque to the authors themselves. This Porch Happy Hour Series will both illuminate the process, and more importantly celebrate authors who have recently “birthed” their books.
In January, we welcome Bonnie Blaylock, author of Light to The Hills.
Bonnie holds a M.A. in creative writing from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. After graduation, she worked for the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in environmental research, where she translated science into articles and papers for the Department of Energy. For over 20 years, she owned a small-animal veterinary hospital with her husband while raising their two children, beekeeping, and traveling extensively. More recently, she has returned to her creative writing roots, hosting a blog of personal essays @ bonnieblaylock.com. Several of these have been cross-published on widely read websites such as medium.com, scarymommy.com and grownandflown.com. She has completed two novels and is currently at work on a third.
