Join us for an evening of get-rich-quick poetry drills and sprints that will fill your blank pages and inspire you to keep writing through the long summer days. Exercises will explore brainstorming strategies, rapid research, and sample poems from contemporary poets including Dorianne Laux and Mary Ruefle. You can’t revise nothing, as Robert Hass says, so plan to spend a couple of hours drafting five (or more!) fresh poems in this fast and furious generative workshop appropriate for emerging writers as well as experienced poets.
Kristin Robertson is a poet, professor, and experienced workshopper. Her first book, Surgical Wing, was selected as Editor’s Choice for the Alice James Award and was published by Alice James Books in 2017. Her poetry appears in Ploughshares, Kenyon Review Online, The Southern Review, The Threepenny Review, Harvard Review, and Five Points, among many other journals. She has taught creative writing at the University of Tennessee and Georgia State University and currently directs the creative writing program at Tennessee Wesleyan University. Kristin lives and writes in Knoxville.
