In this class, we will go over the basics of flash and micro fiction. With contextual examples from international traditions of the genre (primarily focusing on Latin American literature and the works of Ana Maria Shua and Augusto Monterosso), we will go over what makes a short short story work mechanically and technically. Writers will write their own micro story and leave the class with both knowledge of this niche genre and new skills to help their writing contain the punch and flash of short short fiction.
