Romantasy is the hottest genre on #Booktok, but what is it, and more importantly, how can you write it? In this 4-week course, writers will be introduced to the elements of both fantasy and romance, and how to blend them together to create this popular genre fusion. Additional topics will include writing parallel plot and character arcs that cover both genres, fitting romance tropes into fantasy worlds, and building intimate moments amidst world-altering crises. Each class will include a mixture of lectures, group discussion, and writing time. After the four weeks, writers will walk away with a 15-beat outline of their story including both fantasy and romance arcs.

Benji Richards is a transmasc author who spends their time writing fictional romances that allude them in real life. Living in Lebanon, TN with their partner and a small pride of cats, their aim is to introduce readers to interesting characters and fantastical worlds they can get lost in when the real world sucks. When not writing, they can be found teaching others to write, reading the newest pile of books that somehow “appeared” in the house, or practicing their sword fighting in the backyard.
