We hope you'll join us in welcoming Stephanie Elizondo Griest, author of ART ABOVE EVERYTHING, for an evening in conversation with Alexis Özden (Öz) from the Nashville Radical Library, in partnership with our friends at The Bookshop.

Stephanie is an award-winning author and social justice reporter. Her latest work, ART ABOVE EVERYTHING, is a sweeping exploration of the sacrifices woman artists make to pursue their work across borders, disciplines, and decades. The book features over 100 interviews with artists from around the world and celebrates the artistic ambition and resilience of woman who bravely pursue their art above all else.

This is a free event, but please RSVP so we know how many people to expect. Copies of ART ABOVE EVERYTHING will be available for purchase and signing at the event.

ABOUT STEPHANIE
Stephanie Elizondo Griest is a globetrotting author from South Texas. Her six books include: Around the Bloc: My Life in Moscow, Beijing, and Havana; Mexican Enough; and All the Agents and Saints: Dispatches from the US Borderlands. She has also written for the New York Times, Washington Post, The Believer, BBC, VQR, and Oxford American. Her work has won a Margolis Award for Social Justice Reporting, an International Latino Book Award, a PEN Southwest Book Award, and a Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Gold Prize. She currently serves as a professor of creative nonfiction at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

ABOUT ÖZ
Alexis Özden (Öz) is an organizer, poet, and mixed-media artist who explores generational trauma, somatic healing, and gender expression in their work. Öz currently facilitates the Nashville Radical Library, which is a free lending library located at Random Sample that provides the Nashville community with access to radical literature. Öz also routinely hosts and participates in communal discussions and spoken-word events that take place throughout the city, namely in association with WXNA-101.5 FM, the Nashville Poetry Library, and the Porch. They hold memberships with Nour Nashville, the 11:11 Art Collective, and Buchanan Arts.
