There are many paths to becoming an independently published author, but understanding the pros and cons of each can be overwhelming. This two-part class will focus on the nuts and bolts of the publishing process with real-world advice from a self-published indie author. Part one will discuss creating a publishing strategy, the editing process, and choosing the right book distributors. Part two will cover formatting, cover art, social media strategies, marketing, and other work that occurs once the book has been released. You will leave with an understanding of the many options available to an aspiring indie author and the budget needed to turn your manuscript into a published book.

Sara Holifield writes paranormal fantasy romance under the pen name Avalon Griffin. She is the author of the novel Unbound by Shadows, and the short story, The Vampire’s Library, which was published in Once Upon a Book Club’s 2024 Book-Club-Mas anthology. When not writing, she can be found traveling the globe in search of kitschy roadside attractions, off-beat museums, and cryptozoology legends. She lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband and a crew of formerly feral cats.
