There are many paths to becoming an independently published author but understanding the pros and cons of each can be overwhelming. This two-part class will focus on the nuts and bolts of the publishing process with real-world advice from a successful self-published author. Part one will discuss how to create a publishing strategy and what comes before a book’s release, such as cover art, ISBNs, and formatting. Part two will cover how to solicit reviews, social media strategies, marketing, and other work that happens after the book is live to the world. You will leave with an understanding of the many options available to an aspiring indie author and the budget needed to turn your manuscript into a published book.

Sara Holifield is an indie author who writes fantasy romance under the pen name Avalon Griffin. Her debut novel, Unbound by Shadows, was released in 2023, and the second installment, To Dwell in Shadows, will be released in Fall 2024. When not writing, she can be found traveling the globe in search of kitschy roadside attractions, off-beat museums, and cryptozoology legends. She lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband and a crew of formerly feral cats.
