What exactly is fabulism? With other terms like "magical realism," "slipstream," and "weird fiction" floating around, it can be difficult to distinguish between these "in-between" genres—narratives that exist somewhere in the middle of literary and speculative fiction. Join us as we explore this compelling genre that blurs the boundaries between the mundane and the extraordinary. Together, we will engage in discussions and generative writing exercises that dissect the subtle interweave of fantastical elements into everyday settings. By the end, gain insights into crafting your own fabulist narratives.

Cara Lynn Albert is a writer from Florida. Her work has been published in TriQuarterly, The Florida Review, New Ohio Review, Bat City Review, and elsewhere. She holds an MFA degree in creative writing from the University of Colorado Boulder. Cara currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
