Do you want to get published in the Nashville Scene? If you’ve ever wanted to write a film review, music review, profile on a local business or artist, or personal essay for the weekly paper, but wondered how to go about it, this is the class for you.

Join Scene writers and editors as they demystify the process of pitching and getting published in the weekly newspaper. We’ll go over our sections: News, Music, Food, Film, Arts and Culture, Critics’ Picks and Vodka Yonic, as well as who our audience is.

We’ll teach you what makes a strong pitch and common pitfalls to avoid. We’ll also explain payment models and how to get involved with our sister publications: Nfocus, Nashville Post and The News.

We are looking for new writers with diverse perspectives! The class is open to writers of all experience levels and interests. Come with a list of ideas and leave with a strong pitch to share.

The Nashville Scene has been serving our city for 34 years. One of the largest remaining alt-weeklies, the Scene covers news, music, film, food, art, culture, and state and local politics in a way that only we can — with hard news, creative feature writing, long-form reporting, analysis and criticism that serve a diverse readership, and do so with a voice.
