Monsters have always reflected our deepest fears, desires, and anxieties. They also reveal what it means to be human. This four-week workshop explores the many forms monsters can take, and why we're so drawn to them. We'll read and discuss a range of literary works, investigate what makes a monster memorable, and experiment with creating our own. Through weekly writing exercises and craft discussions, participants will develop an original monster-centered story, poem, or essay to workshop during our final class.

What Our Students Say

"Cara's class was interesting and informative on books and viewpoints which I was not previously aware of -- which will help me with my novel!"

"A very fun and well-curated class. Cara clearly put a lot of thought into it! It was a very enjoyable experience and the conversation throughout was fun and inspiring."

"I'm really thankful to Cara for using mentor texts highlighting diverse voices. It was a relief and refreshing to hear from different authors as opposed to having mentor examples that were all one-noted."
