In this introductory course, writers will be walked through the basics of writing a screenplay versus prose; studying works by Oscar-winning screenwriters in both adaptational works (Moonlight, dir. Barry Jenkins) and original (Her, dir. Spike Jonze) to find their own style. Students may come to class with their own pieces to adapt, or start from scratch with their peers. No prior experience in filmmaking or watching short films necessary - this course is designed to educate and inspire newcomers to the world of filmmaking! By the end of class, students will have a short film ready to shoot or submit to the festival circuit.
