Just in time for Halloween, this fiction workshop will examine the psychology behind what makes horror stories frightening. Learn about things like suspense, world-building, character creation, and creative word choice, while building scary stories of your own.
This introductory free class will be led by Porch Youth Program Director Joe Kane at the Inglewood Branch, Nashville Public Library. (Writing Scary Stories will also be offered on November 21st for Grades 4-6.)

Before moving to Nashville, Joe Kane was an editor for several literary magazines and taught creative writing in Detroit Public Schools as a writer-in-residence of the Inside Out Literary Arts Project. His poems and stories have found many homes, including RHINO, Elimae, theEEEL, Clapboard House, The Splinter Generation, Cricket Online Review, Psychic Meatloaf, Right Hand Pointing, and the NPR podcast Versify.
Joe is the director of our Youth Education Programs.
